Cristina Arrigoni Martelli

I owe my love of bird hunting and bird dogs to my Dad and his Britanny, Bobo, whom I had the  luck to grow up with. To me, the essence of hunting is to be outdoors collaborating and working  with dogs. I am just fascinated with that relationship and bond. I started guiding with Brits, and  then, one day, a client showed up with a five-month old Ryman type setter. The dog got his first  bird on my watch and I had to have a setter. Guiding for an outfitter who ran English field bred  cockers got me into flushing dogs (and a liver colored flushing companion). It never gets old.  Since I like to read when I am not in the woods, I ended up with a PhD in environmental history  and a dissertation on, you guessed it, hunting. I have guided in Maine for about 11 years and  hunted here for close to twenty. I have worked for outfitters and had my own little guiding  business. I train my own dogs, am hoping to start breeding at some point soon, and currently  share the house with three Setters and two Brits.
