DIRECTIONS FROM MILLINOCKET

(Approx. 2.5hrs to camp)

Print this page and use it like a day of your Maine vacation relies on it!!

Do not rely on your GPS For driving

(the database in GPS units is often wrong; it will not bring you here)

Please try to arrive before 11am or between 1-5pm. Lunch arrivals are not recommended.

  • 95 North to Medway, exit 244.
  • Go L at end of ramp onto 157 West. Go 14 miles to Millinocket.
  • Please call in from town so we know when to expect you.  207-433-0660
  • Your cell phone will NOT work beyond Millinocket.  Gas up in Millinocket.
  • Go straight through town, through lights.  After town center you will come to a “T” intersection with an old high school on Right. Go R following signs to Baxter State Park.
  • Go 200 yards and fork L still following signs for Baxter State Park.
  • Go six miles to small store on Right (last gas and groceries), and Katahdin Air Service on Left.  You can fly in to camp with Katahdin Air.
  • At this point you must CROSS OVER to the parallel road on the Left, called the Golden Road.  Going straight will dead end you into Baxter Park so Do Not Miss This Turn.
  • Go another 20+- miles to paved road coming in on right, Go R and immediately cross the single-lane Penobscot River Bridge, road turns to dirt.
  • Go 13 miles to gate, pay North Maine Woods fee.  $40 per person.
  • Go 8 miles to one lane Chamberlain Bridge, go over.
  • Go 9.5 miles to major road on right, stay straight.
  • Go 2 miles to fork, bear R onto smaller road.
  • Go 2.5 miles to crossroads, "Pillsbury" sign, go straight (do not bear right).
  • Go 9 miles to fork, bear R.
  • 5.25 miles to small sign, "Bradford Camps", go R.  (If you pass two small buildings on the left you went 1 mile too far)
  • You are four miles from camp, follow signs.
  • SEE YOU SOON!  WELCOME...(see why we try to get everyone to fly in...?)

All distances +- .5 mile.

Driving from Millinocket, while shorter overall in terms of time is longer on dirt roads. A map for this route is not displayed here. We recommend that you purchase 'The Maine Atlas and Gazetteer', about $20, available at most convenience stores, and follow it closely with the above directions. All distances are +- .5 mile.  Reconsider driving in from Ashland, that is the route we use and our guides use also.

Make sure you have a good spare tire before heading into the woods.  A can of Fix-a-Flat is a good idea also.  Your cell phone will not work on the logging roads.    Please try not to arrive at noon while lunch is being served.  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US THAT YOU PLEASE PLAN ON ARRIVING AT CAMP BEFORE DARK, preferably by 5:00.  After dark it is very easy to miss turns, we won't know where to start looking for you, and we will probably be asleep!
